Nasrallah threatens - Israel acts

Nasrallah threatens to strike Tel Aviv:

In a speech on Al-Manar television Thursday,
Hizbullah leader Hassan Nasrallah threatened to launch missiles at Tel Aviv if Israel bombed Beirut.

The air raids on Beirut began at 0055 Friday morning, and continued through dawn.

IAF resumes strikes against southern Beirut:

The IAF resumed its attacks on southern Beirut on Thursday night with strikes against Hizbullah and Hamas offices in the Dahiya neighborhood.

Earlier in the day, the Air Force dropped leaflets over the city, warning citizens to leave the city.

Hizbullah leader Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah warned Israel in a televised interview earlier in the day that if Beirut was struck, then he would launch rockets at Tel Aviv.

In Tel Aviv, people are not running away - they are making ready.

Tel Aviv municipality prepares for possible attack:

The Tel Aviv municipality is preparing for the possibility of rocket attacks.

Since the fighting began on the northern border, special teams have begun organizing the bomb shelters and special reinforced areas in the city.

Simultaneously, emergency teams in the city were readying themselves, and had even practiced the procedures they would need if rockets were to fall in Tel Aviv, Army Radio reported.

The city's website has an updated list of public shelters and maps of their locations.

Back to the stone age... or at least 1982.

We suspect that most Lebanese were not even born in 1982, and so they just can't imagine how bad things could get in the event that Hizballah actually fires missiles at Tel Aviv.

A "senior defense source" says:

A senior Israeli defense source told Israel's Channel 1 that Israel will destroy Lebanon's infrastructure if Hizbullah fires rockets at Tel Aviv.

That's not a threat. It's a statement of fact. Best of luck Lebanon, you'll need it.

Meanwhile, from Monsey, the cavalry has arrived...

NY firemen come to reinforce locals:

Eleven New York firefighters put their lives on hold this week and paid their way to Jerusalem, where they have been volunteering in a number of understaffed stations.

Because of rocket-caused fires in the North, fire stations elsewhere started sending units to help, leaving places like Jerusalem in need of more personnel.

"It's a good feeling to know somebody's thinking about you," said Arik Nisimov, a firefighter at the Giva station. "That here are guys that will come and help, no matter how far we are between countries."

Nathan Rothschild, commissioner of the Monsey fire district in New York's Rockland County, who planned the whole trip, said 22 more firemen would be coming to Israel next week to replace firemen in other parts of the country.
